Guinness' Story
This sweet
girl was also an owner surrender, due to the family not
having the "time" to dedicate to her. She was kept
outside her whole 2 years of life with this family and
had very little adult interaction. Guinness was picked
up and brought to our foster home, Michelle.
From
day one, she became attached to the children at
Michelle's house and adjusted to being someone's pet,
rather than shunned to the backyard. After being in her
foster home for a few weeks, she was adopted to a family
in Utah.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseeable circumstances,
this did not work out and had to come back to Las
Vegas Labrador Rescue, down here in Las Vegas. Of
course, we took it hard, as it was our first
adoption that didn't go 100% smooth, but come to
find out, it all happened for a reason. Leigh (From
Southern California) had her eye on her from day
one, but her husband and her were still discussing
details when the other family stepped in and wanted
her.
So,
Miss Guinness returned to her foster home, where
Michelle took her back in. She stayed here for 3
weeks until Leigh and her family returned home from
vacation. The day after Leigh made it home, she
packed up her (ADORABLE!) kids and made the 5 hour
drive to Vegas to pick her up!). The following was
written by Leigh of her experience with Guinness and
LVLR.
I have always wanted two dogs. I grew up with 2 dogs
and it was just more animals to love! When my rescue
passed away, we waited almost a year to get another
dog. Because she wasn't great with our kids, we
wanted a lab and went through a breeder. I always
knew our 2nd dog would be a rescue and hopefully a
lab. After being on the lab board and hearing all
the great rescue stories, my mind started turning. I
looked on LVLR's site and saw Guinness. The girl
just tugged at my heart and I knew she was the one.
It didn't matter to me that I hadn't seen her in
person.
I
talked to my husband who really was happy with just
one dog. While we were mulling it over, she was
adopted. I cried a lot that day and the day after.
My husband realized how important she was to me and
why I wanted another dog. Not just any dog,
Guinness. Lucky for us, her adoption did not work
out and I was beyond thrilled to know she would be
coming home with us!! I just couldn't wait and went
all the way to Vegas to get her. She is scared of a
lot of things, but she is perfect. She LOVES the
kids and is open to any love she is given!
She
is a cuddle-bug and a huge kisser, something I miss
from our first lab! She came home and met Bodie and
the two of them have been loving each other from the
moment they met. Having 2 dogs isn't just great for
us, it's great for them! She might be afraid of
cameras, so I don't have great happy pictures, but
she is happy. She is so excited when daddy comes
home from work and any time I leave she greets me as
if she hasn't seen me in ages. She has taken to
carrying around towels and even brought me a blanket
this morning from the couch! Silly girl!
There is such a different heart in a rescue
dog...not necessarily deeper, but different and very
gripping. Anyone that is thinking of adopting should
do it. There really is a special bond you get from
rescuing an animal, no matter what their condition
was. They KNOW you are their savior, their chance at
a life they deserve.
Thank you Lisa for uniting Guinness with us! I hope
you know how much it means to us that you do the
work you do!
