Lucky's Story -
RIP, Sweet Girl.
This sweet
girl was an owner surrender as well. Unfortunately for
her, her former owner didn't even try to find a rescue
or a new good home. They dumped her at the pound. Las
Vegas Labrador Rescue was working with out of state
rescue and one day Las Vegas Labrador Rescue got an
email from Liana, a rescue in Arkansas. She sent us an
email with a bunch of labs and lab mixes that were going
to be PTS if not saved. Immediately I replied to her
picking out Lucky's sweet face. (Also pulled and saved
was Princess Grace, which you can also find her story on
here)
Lucky was
pulled within a couple days and after being vetted was
on her way to Las Vegas Labrador Rescue foster family in
Texas, Dhana and David. Lucky spent approximately 3
weeks with them and for the first time, truly felt what
it was like to be with a family that loved her.
Las Vegas
Labrador Rescue is on a Labrador Retreiver Chat Board (www.lab-retriever.net)
and with Lucky's story being posted on there, I was
hoping someone from there would see her and want to
adopt her.
What do you
know.. I don't think she was even on there a day and we
got a very excited message from a woman named Heather
from Indiana. She was extremely interested in Lucky and
wanted to fill out an application. We sent one off and
within hours, I had the application in my email. After
Las Vegas Labrador Rescue verified references and her
vet, we decided pending a home visit that Lucky would be
adopted to her.
About a
week later, Linda with LOLIN (Love of Labs, IN - another
rescue group we are in contact with) went out and did a
home visit. That night we got a very reassuring email
from her saying Heather would be a perfect fit.
About 2
weeks later, Lucky began her transport to her new
forever home. She arrived in Indiana on Feb 19th to a
VERY excited new family!
Below is
the story they have written about their experience with
Las Vegas Labrador Rescue and adopting Lucky.
My name is Heather and this is the story of how
myself and my 7 year old daughter (Kasey) fell
in love with a beautiful lab pup named Lucky.
I have 2
gorgeous labs named Max and Zoe, one black and
one yellow. Zoe is 2 years old and Max is 18
months old. Kasey and I love them more than
anything in the world. They have helped us
through the rough time Kasey and I are going
through right now. I am going through a divorce
and it has been tough on Kasey and I. I hadn’t
even considered getting another dog before all
of this mess. One day, while on the Lab Board,
I was browsing the adoption listings and came
across this beautiful face. Her name was Lucky
and she stole my heart from the start. Of
course, in my head I was thinking, “Are you
kidding?? You cannot have ANOTHER dog!!” But
my heart was saying, “You have so much love to
give, she needs you.” So, I sent a casual email
to Lisa inquiring on any labs she had for
adoption and of course she told me about Lucky.
I told Lisa how gorgeous I thought Lucky was and
how I would love to have her but was nervous
about how my babies would feel about another dog
in the house. Lisa assured me that her
temperament was awesome and told me how sweet
she was. I then decided that I would fill out
an application and see what happened from
there. Lisa got right back with me and let me
know that my app looked great and wanted to do a
home visit. I agreed and that Saturday, another
Lab Board member named Linda Acup, came to do my
home visit. Linda said that my house was
perfect and Lucky would fit in well with our
family. Next thing I know, I AM GETTING A NEW
BABY!!!! I was just thrilled, nervous a little
but completely thrilled!! Lucky was staying
with a WONDERFUL foster family in Texas. I
started chatting with Dhana, Lucky’s foster
mommy, everyday to check on her progress and of
course, see lots of pictures. Kasey and I
looked at the pictures everyday with high
anticipation of Lucky’s arrival. An awesome
lady named Liana along with Lisa set up the
transport. It would be a few weeks at this
point before I would see Lucky. She was coming
all the way from Texas to Indiana. Well, the
time came and several WONDERFUL volunteers from
the lab board transported Lucky home on Sunday,
February 12th. Kasey and I drove the
last leg of the transport from Louisville KY to
home in Greenwood Indiana. We met a wonderful
family in KY who was so in love with Lucky by
the time we got there! It was understandable
though, how could you not fall for her beautiful
face?!? The trip home was just perfect! She
slept the whole way. We arrived home safe and
sound! It was time for the big meeting. I let
Lucky explore the house and kind of get used to
her new surroundings before I let my babies out
to meet her. When they finally met, it went off
beautifully! There was a lot of sniffing and
whatnot but the fun began immediately. They
explored the back yard together with my two
showing Lucky all the good spots! It was just
great to see them so good together.
It has only gotten
better since the first day. Lucky is a dream
come true for Kasey and I. She is so loving and
the most well behaved girl! My babies love her
and have accepted her into our pack. Lisa
opened our eyes and hearts to this beautiful
girl. If it weren’t for Lisa, Kasey and I would
not know what it was like to save a baby and
know that we will give her the life that she
deserves. Adopting is such a rewarding
experience! Try it for yourself, you will see!
Save the babies!
