Lucy's Story -
Lucy is a
bit of a world traveler. She was with a family in
Arkansas who decided that she was just too much work and
needed to give her up. Back there, black labs are a dime
a dozen so they didn't want to put her at the shelter.
Luckily,
Michelle (a fellow rescuer) caught wind and decided to
help this little girl. She contacted us to see if we
would be able to place her easier out here, where labs
are not overcrowding the shelters (the way pit bulls are
in Las Vegas). Of course after seeing that face, we said
yes.
Lucy
arrived here with a family already waiting for her. Our
foster home Jill's co worker was anxiously awaiting her
arrival. Once she was here, we took her in and got her
spayed/chipped and she was ready to go!
Sam and his
wife adopted Lucy the very next day and have just been
spoiling her ever since!
After almost a
year of marriage Sam and I were ready for an
addition to the family. Not quite ready for kids,
adopting a dog seemed perfect. Lucy or Lucy Lou as
we call her is an absolute star. Lucy was 4 months
old when we adopted her and I have to say the family
that gave her up did a great job. Lucy was almost
fully house trained when we got her. We spend lots
of time with Lucy, teaching her new tricks and
generally running round like lunatics. Lucy is
trying her very best to make friends with our cat,
Keiko, who has been an “only pet” for 8 years. I
suspect when we are not looking they snuggle up and
play but that’s a relationship that is kept strictly
under wraps.
Lucy has a
great personality and on her way to Vegas she
actually missed her flight. Just hearing this story
we fell in love with her. I had an image of this
poor little pup wandering around the airport with
her passport and matching luggage saying “I can’t
believe I’m missing happy hour in Vegas”. Ever since
Lucy arrived we have had many happy hours and there
will surely be many more to come.
With Lucy’s love
of shoes, she is a girl after my own heart. Sam’s
just glad she borrows ours and doesn’t actually have
to purchase them! Its crazy when you find a chewed
up shoe and you ask her what happened she turns and
looks at you with that face, like butter wouldn’t
melt. Or when she’s digging in the garden and you
shout LUCY. She looks as if to say “it wasn’t me”
even though she has dirt all over her nose.
A typical lab
with a sense for fun, adventure and puppy mischief,
that’s our Lucy. Sam hopes to start training her as
a hunting partner when she matures a little. Lucy
loves the outdoors so the occasional hunting or
fishing trip will put Lucy in her element not to
mention how happy it will make my husband.
We would also
like to say a huge thank you to Jill (Sam’s co
worker and Lucy’s foster mom) and Lisa. Working with
the 2 of you was a delightful experience. You do a
wonderful job of finding loving families for these
great dogs. Thank you for the opportunity to adopt
our pretty puppy. She is in a house with lots of
love.
Shelley, Sam and
Lucy
