Las Vegas Labrador Rescue would like to take this place of our website to honor a very sweet girl, Ginger. Ginger was more than just a pet to our dear friends Barb and Jerry. She was their first born. This sweet girl gave back every ounce of love she was given. Barb has written a small tribute to beautiful Ginger. RIP, sweet Ginger. You will always be remembered.

Ginger, you came into my life when I needed you most. You see, I had a miscarriage and two days later we went and picked you out from a litter of pups. You were such a rollie-pollie pup. I never was able to have children so you became my "first born" for me and remained so. I won't say the first few years were easy with you. Boy were you stubborn and hard headed, but very smart. Sometimes we didn't think you were so smart because when I said "come" you thought I said "run real fast in the opposite direction"!  You always had a smile on your face and when you wagged your tail your whole body wagged too!  You were the first lab I ever had, and because of your gentle personality grew to favor labs over all other dogs. You were oh, so sweet.
Ginger you were exceptional with other dogs and especially cats. We've always had cats and you would get down on their level and ever so gently take your paw and pet them. The cats loved you and would sometimes "knead" with their paws and dig their claws into your face.  We would have to remove the cats claws from your face, yet you never growled and showed only acceptance and love toward them. You would just lay there and let them do whatever. You loved to mother other animals and were always a friend to them. We found you many times laying on our bed with one of the cats.
You were a true Lab in every sense.  You had an incredible nose that was "always on the hunt" and your retriever instinct was so strong you always had to be carrying something in your mouth. Whenever we came home from where ever we had been you were there to greet us with either a piece of wood in your mouth, a rock, a toy or one of Jerry's socks. You always had to find something to carry, that was one of the first thing you would do when greeting anyone. You were a great protector of our home, alerting us to anyone strange coming up the driveway or your happy excited bark when Jerry would come home from work.
But last year you started having seizures, we got them under control with medication. Then recently you went blind in one eye overnight, we found out you had high blood pressure and got that under control. You adapted so well with vision in just one eye. You had been doing so well recently and had that smile on your face again that I even ordered a brand new collar for you. But you didn't live to see it come and be placed around your neck. You would have looked so good in it. You see, it was your time, and you took a turn for the worse and went into a deep sleep. I laid next to you and petted, kissed and told you I loved you. You gave us 12yrs years of love, loyalty and companionship, something we will always treasure. There will always be an ache in my heart for you. You see, you are my "first born"!  And always will be.

We miss you Ginger and always will keep you in our hearts.
