Tara
Las
Vegas Labrador Rescue would like to remember a very
sweet girl, Tara, who was taken from her family too
soon. Tara made such a huge impact on so many peoples'
lives, including mine. When you met this girl, the love
and gratitude just oozed out of her eyes and anybody who
has met her will NEVER forget her sweet face or gentle
demeanor. Trina has written the story of her rescuing
Tara and how she made everyone feel. RIP, sweet Tara.
We'll never forget.
On March 5, 2005, my
husband and I were at his old house on Tara Road, fixing
it up to get it ready to sell. A scared black dog was
running up and down the road barking. I was worried
because she sounded like she was in distress. I also
noticed that three boys were throwing rocks at her. One
of the neighbors was working in his yard, so I went over
and asked who her owners were. He said she had been
probably been dumped because she had been running around
the neighborhood for about two weeks. He also said that
no one was taking care of her. Another neighbor came
over and said that Animal Control had been called and
they were going to pick her up sometime that week. I
lured her over to me with some dog biscuits. She was
very nervous, but I could tell she was tired and hungry.
She was in such distress, that I couldn't just leave her
there. I loaded her into my car and drove her home.
I was planning on finding a
new home for her because we weren’t looking for another
dog. After only a few days with us, I had fallen in love
with her. I took her to the vet to make sure she was
healthy and, while we were there, I microchipped her. My
husband came home that night and said he thought he had
found a home for her. I told him “too bad, she’s already
mine.”
The more time I spent with
her, the more smitten I became. She was a very stubborn
and independent dog when I rescued her. I don’t know how
long she had been living on her own, but she was
convinced she didn’t need anybody. I had to earn her
trust and love. With time, care, and unconditional love,
she blossomed into the most loyal and dedicated animal I
have ever known.
Sadly, she had health
problems from the very beginning. But no matter how much
pain she was in, she had a passion for life and was
always up for anything. Her favorite activity was riding
in the car, and we spent many hours just driving.
Only a year after we
rescued her, cancer stole her away from me. She was my
best friend, my constant companion, and my soul mate.
She gave me her heart and soul, and she taught me how to
love unconditionally.
I will miss her all the
days of my life, and I will love her until the end of
time.
