This poor guy and his brother were bought by a family here in Las Vegas. For the 1st 5 months of his life, he was contained to a large sized crate which he had to SHARE with his brother (Owen - see his story on the HAPPY TAILS page) or to the backyard. Finally when they were 6 months, the family realized they didn't want these dogs and called LVLR.

The weekend we got the call, we went and picked them both up. We dropped them off at our foster home. Monster was born blind in one eye, which in the earlier pictures you can tell, it was all blue. We took him to the vet to get neutered and our vet (Who is just amazing) did some tests and saw that there was an incredibly high amount of pressure behind it. This made her believe that even though he was tolerating the pain now, as he got older it would just cause him more suffering. In addition to that, she was worried it would spread to the other eye. Her recommendation was to remove the eye and put an implant in its place. I decided since it was such a big procedure, I would leave it up to whatever family adopted him.

About a week or two later, Rach and Jer (Who I had been emailing with for awhile) decided they wanted to meet sweet Monster at the park. They instantly fell in love with him and emailed me the next day saying they wanted him!

Since his eye removal surgery was so important, Rach and Jer agreed that they wanted to get it done now while he was young as opposed to waiting until he was older and in more pain.  A couple days later, Dr Hagstette did the surgery (Which went amazingly well and come to find out, it is not genetic, so it wouldn't spread to the other eye) and off he went to his new home!

The following was written by Monster's new family.

My significant other and I have always had some sort of pet in our lives, but after we moved out to be on our own, a pet in an apartment was out of the question. Our doggy adventure began shortly after deciding that buying a house would be the next step of our lives together, and thus the search for the perfect dog was on. I have to admit, I wasn’t looking for a rescue dog at first, and had my heart set on a chubby little Labrador pup – but I quickly converted my state of mind after a couple of months worth of “Animal Cops.”

I searched every pet adoption agency from state to privately owned, but most of them couldn’t hold a dog for us until the moving date we had set. My heart broke at all the potential dogs we could have adopted but were not given the chance. Then one day, I ran into a link for Las Vegas Labrador Rescue. I knew this was going to be it. After a few email correspondences, we decided to give Monster a chance. I have to admit that the sound of a blind-in-one-eye lab wasn’t too appealing at first. We wanted an active dog, and at the time, thought he would be slowed down with the lack of an eye. We gave him a chance anyway, and decided to drive down to the dog park to meet him.

What caught my eye the most was the comical way Monster got out of the SUV – Lisa looked like her arms were about the fall off if he tugged any harder!! For the rest of our meeting, all he did was run, play, sniff, and run some more! The lack of one eye definitely did not slow this dog down, and after all, that was all I was concerned about. After that first meeting, there was no competition! Monster has captured our hearts. Everything about him from his frisky active nature, to how much of a sweet natured lovable dog he is, just makes him that much more of a gift to us. I knew we had to adopt this pup!

Three weeks later, he is bigger, stronger, healthier, and not to mention, happier. He has served as comic relief, a shoulder to cry on, someone to hug, a faithful pet, and much much more in such a short time. With out LVLR, this 8 month old pup would not know the meaning of a good, permanent home, and we wouldn’t have a happily wagging tail to come home to.

Thanks LVLR!
